The best and worst looks in makeup history

Makeup application is a long, rich tradition that has taken many unusual shapes and forms. 

In this video, makeup artist Lisa Eldridge shows viewers which periods of history were the best for makeup lovers ... and which were the worst. Because, while some historical cultures have embraced cosmetics with open arms (Ancient Egypt), other have associated any sort of facial paint with deception or trickery (Medieval Europe).

And Eldridge makes sure to emphasize the fact that we're not bound by nearly as many makeup trends or styles today. There's a lot more room for creativity and self-expression in the modern makeup palette — and we're all thankful for that.
